London Borough of Newham

Fast food delivery rider safety campaign
Newham organises a road safety campaign targeting scooter/motorcycle fast food delivery riders, after commissioning a casualty report which highlighted the high number of collisions involving riders with an engine of less than 125cc.

Statistics from Newham Motorcycle Study have shown that there is a peak in motorcyclists involved in collisions between 6pm and 10pm, particularly on Friday to Sunday.

Under the Health and Safety Act 1974, companies have a duty of care to protect their employees. This includes road activities with companies required to carry out an assessment of the risks to the health and safety of its employees.

To help address this problem, Newham Council has offered businesses high visibly waistcoats to use in conjunction with their riders existing Personal Protective Equipment so they are more visible to other road users.
